One of Northumberland's oldest inns. Award-winning food, five-star rooms, a fire that rarely goes out, and a village that has gathered here for over two hundred years. Still here. Still yours.
The Duke of Wellington has stood at the heart of Newton since before the railway came through the valley. Some pubs are places to drink. Some are places to eat. The Duke has always been both, and something else entirely: the room the village comes back to, week after week, year after year. We have been here since before anyone can remember. We intend to stay.

The Restaurant
The menu follows the seasons, not the trends. We work with producers across Northumberland to bring what the valley does best to the table. Award-winning, locally sourced, and the kind of food that people plan their weekend around. The dining room looks out over the Tyne Valley and is available Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 to 9pm, plus Sunday lunch.

The Bar
Stone floors, a log-burning stove, and a bar that has been at the centre of this village for over two centuries. Local ales, a gin collection worth spending time with, and the full food menu available without booking. Dogs welcome. No dress code. Open seven days.

The Rooms
Seven en suite rooms, each named after a Northumbrian river and designed with that river's character in mind. No two the same. Five-star gold from Visit England and the AA. The Granary Cottage next door sleeps four, with its own garden, kitchen and two parking spaces.

A village is not just a place on a map.

Places like ours are where those patterns are kept.
We have been here for over two hundred years.
We have fed people well, kept the fire lit, and kept the door open.
That is what we intend to keep doing.

Teams of up to six. £2 per person. Quizmaster Gary in the chair. No phones. Questions written in-house across a genuinely broad range. New teams always welcome, the regulars are beatable, it just hasn't happened recently.
THURSDAY EVENING
STEAK NIGHT
Two steaks, one bottle of house wine, included in the price. Northumbrian beef, properly aged, cooked the way you ask. The terrace is open in summer. Book in advance: we don't keep tables back on steak nights.
